Please call members of the Assembly Education Committee (listed below) and ask them to vote NO on a bill in the Extraordinary Session X3 32 (Silva)

The bill changes the deadline for notice of termination services for teacher layoff from May 15, 2009 to June 15, 2009 for this year only.

The message is simple:
This change in deadline does not help teachers.
Affected teachers will suffer reduced access to unemployment benefits if the period of uncertainty is extended to June.
And, districts will not be able to assess their budget situation for 2009-2010 school year based upon the results of the Special Election, and so there is no basis for moving the date since they will not have any additional budget information in June that they don't have in May.
