Dear Colleagues, Dear Colleagues, Update #3 Dear Colleagues, May 26, 2010
The location of the Safety Net workshop has been established. Thanks to Pastor Michelle Yeun from the Crossing Church for offering the upstairs facility for our meeting. There is plenty of parking for the 200+ people who are expected to attend. Here are the particulars:
Please mark your calendars for June 16th from 4-6pm. We will be having a Safety Net workshop to help those who received layoff notices access vital safety net resources such as unemployment benefits, mortgage/rental assistance, food security, etc.

Rumor Control!!!
Thank you so much to those of you who have contacted the NMFT office for clarification on some very important issues. This message is meant to clarify some of the rumors and mixed messages, etc. that are being spread.
We need to call Congress to get the Federal Jobs Bill passed. There is money for education jobs in California: it means $3-4 BILLION to SAVE JOBS IN EDUCATION FOR CALIFORNIA!!!
Call your congress member TODAY: 866.608.6355
It takes about 5 minutes to make the call.
Tell him/her to SUPPORT the JOBS BILL. Specifically, we want their SUPPORT for Title III (Preventing Layoffs of Teachers, Police, and Firefighters, and Preserving Student Assistance) of the fiscal year 2010 emergency supplemental appropriations bill. We want to make sure education jobs are included in the jobs bill.
Please see below for the letter sent by AFT President Randi Weingarten on our behalf. When we call our congress members, it puts strength behind her message.
Superintendent Hubbard's attorney provided a counter- proposal to NMFT's "Effects of Layoff" proposal today.
